MIM gearing up to contest Bengaluru civic polls.

HYDERABAD:
The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), which is aiming to spread its wings wider in the national realm, is laying the groundwork in Bengaluru to contest the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections likely to be held in April this year.

"I have given the go ahead to our party workers to start working in Bengaluru," party president Asaduddin Owaisi told TOI on Thursday. The MIM will not enter into an alliance with any party, he added. "Why should anybody on the ground come and talk to me. We are not worried of the "if" and "when"," Owaisi said.

While Owaisi declined to comment further, sources said the party is likely to contest in at least 10 of the 198 wards in the BBMP, which has a substantial Muslim population.

In what was seen as a litmus test, the MIM had fielded candidates in the local body polls in Karnataka in 2013 where it managed to secure 3 seats each in Basavakalyan and Bidar.

Reacting to speculations that the party would contest assembly elections in the national capital, MIM sources admitted that the party has begun setting up primary units in Delhi, and in particular, in the Okhla area which has a strong Muslim population. But, they added that it is still unclear if the party would contest the elections.
In previous public meetings and smaller gatherings, Owaisi announced that the party would field candidates in Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. The party's planned foray into these states, he claimed, was on account of the parties like Samajwadi Party in UP and the Trinamool Congress in WB, which he claimed had done little to help the minorities in general and Muslims in particular.Read More at: www.kirakclips.blogspot.in
