Afsar Khan Ex-MLA AIMIM: Senior MIM leader passes away at 64

HYDERABAD:
Senior Majlis-e-Itthedaul Muslimeen (MIM) leader and former Karwan legislator Mohammed Muqtada Khan, popularly known as Afsar Khan, passed away on Friday.
He was 64. Khan was suffering from prolonged illness and was admitted at a private hospital. He is survived by his wife, three sons and five daughters.
The former MLA was elected in the by-election of 2003, after the death of MIM legislator Syed Sajjad, and subsequently in 2004 assembly elections.

He retained his seat in 2009. However, in view of his failing health, the MIM decided against giving him a party ticket in the 2014 assembly elections and the party named his aide, now a legislator, Kausar Mohiuddin, as the candidate.
Funeral prayers were held at Masjid-e-Azizia in Mehdipatnam after Friday prayers and he was buried at the graveyard in Dargah Hazrat Syed Wahab Qadri in Murad Nagar.
Apart from the party leadership which includes the Owaisi brothers, deputy chief minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali and around 3,000 people attended Khan's last rites which led to traffic snarls across Mehdipatnam.
