HYDERABAD:
With the Telangana government according top priority to pensions, the Hyderabad district administration is yet to begin verification of applications for caste/community, income and nativity certificates received nearly a month ago.
The entire district administration, including revenue staff, have been put on verification of pension applications. In fact, Hyderabad collector Mukesh Kumar Meena has fixed November 30 as the deadline for completing the verification of the three types (old-age, widow and disabled welfare) of pension applications.
As per the data available with the Hyderabad district administration, 9.40 lakh applications were received for food security cards, 1.95 lakh for caste/community certificates, 1.04 lakh for income certificates and 1.03 lakh for nativity certificates during special camps organised by the district administration at 16 mandal revenue offices and Exhibition Grounds, Nampally.
"On Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao's directive, we have given priority to pension applications. So far, the district administration has completed verification of 82,000 of 1.37 lakh pension applications. The staff, deputed for verification of pension applications, is busy uploading details of beneficiaries. By November 30, we will complete the process. The next step is verification of caste/community, income and nativity certificates," a senior revenue official with the Hyderabad collectorate told TOI.
The modalities of verification of these applications are yet to be prepared. Mandal revenue inspectors have to be part of the verification process, but as they too were involved in processing pension applications, issue of other certificates might get delayed, the official added.

Regarding applications received for food security cards, the Hyderabad district chief rationing office has not yet started the verification process. "It is a fact that the entire staff is involved in processing pension applications. Once the pension applications are processed, we will start scrutiny of food security card applications," Hyderabad district supply officer Rajasekhar said.
